Out in Silence and Not a Simple Story, both directed by Christine Choy as part of the Fear of Disclosure video series begun in 1989 by Phil Zwickler and David Wojnarowicz, offered information and inspiration to a community struggling to accept the presence of HIV/AIDS in its midst. Choy’s companion pieces challenged the silence and denial surrounding HIV/AIDS infection among Asian and Pacific Islander Americans specifically as both of her films profiled Asian-American individuals who were either active in AIDS education and/or were diagnosed as HIV positive.
