music, art, and more in the Brooklyn Bridge
"[Creative Time] in the Anchorage is a great way to beat the heat and feel it too. This annual summer show of installation artworks, organized by Creative Time, takes place in one of the City's greatest hidden interiors: the cavernous brick vaults of the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage, a space pleasantly immune to the waves of heat and humidity assaulting the Northeast."

about the anchorage
Creative Time offers annual public access to one of New York's most spectacular landmark structures. Visitors have compared the cathedral-like vaults (nearly 50 feet high) to Piranesi's "Carceri", to ancient catacombs and to the austere intimacy of a monastery.

june 1 - 25
Thursdays & Fridays 3 - 8pm
Saturdays & Sundays 1 - 6pm
In its on-going investigation into new media and electronic music, Creative Time presents the U.S. premiere of NOISEGATE, a site-specific installation using large-scale video projection and manipulated sound, by renowned Austrian artists, Kurt Hentschläger and Ulf Langheinrich, collectively known as Granular Synthesis. NOISEGATE runs from June 1st to June 25th at the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage.

Through NOISEGATE, Granular Synthesis has created an immersive multi-media experience with 6 massive projections of disembodied heads onto 30 by 18 foot video screens set in the darkness of the Anchorage's chambers. Using proprietary video sampling software, audio hardware, and digital video, NOISEGATE transforms the unique space of the Anchorage into an enormous media landscape. While the images break and dissolve, a sonic field of multi-layer pulses envelops viewers in an environment intended to overwhelm, rattle and disturb.
NOISEGATE debuted in 1998 and was co-produced by MAK-Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna; Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel/Marstall, Munich; Kunstverein Hannover; Hull Time Based Arts, Hull; Maison des Arts, Creteil/Le Manege Scene Nationale, Maubeuge; Muziekcentrum De IJsbreker, Amsterdam; Granular Synthesis, Vienna.

REMIX
In conjunction with NOISEGATE, Creative Time presents REMIX - a series of collaborative performances to contextualize the sonic practices of Granular Synthesis within the larger scope of composition and production of electronic music. Renowned electronic composers from around the world will collaborate live with Granular Synthesis using the sonic material of their installation as a springboard. Thursdays in June, µ-ziq, Scanner, Pole (6/8); We, Fennesz, Vladislav Delay (6/15); Ryoji Ikeda, Alain Thibault and Naut Humon with special guest Kaffe Matthews (6/22) will change the immersive audio/visual environment of NOISEGATE by placing their sonic imprint on the installation, ultimately creating more than a soundtrack, but an improvised re-engineering of the work.
