LIVE AUCTION

Creative Time’s signature live auction, hosted by Alexander Gilkes of Phillips de Pury & Co, offers bidders the opportunity to be not just the owner of an artwork but an active participant in it’s creation. This year’ bidders will have the opportunity to bid on portraits from Adam Fuss and Vik Muniz among others.

Adam Fuss

Adam Fuss's color photograms of babies floating in water are among his best-known works, and are in the collections of major museums throughout the world. Each image is entirely unique, made directly with the baby, the parent, and the artist. Each work manifests an extraordinary process: in the dark studio, the parent gently sets the baby into a pool of warm, shallow water. Under the baby is a piece of unexposed photo paper, and Fuss exposes this paper through a quick flash of light. He seeks out that exact moment during which the child's movements express a full sense of his or her character in the water. The winning bidder will receive a 40x30" unique cibachrome photogram.

Estimated value: $25,000

Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin

Dutch photography duo Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin have been championed by the fashion world and art collectors alike for their unique and subversive approach to photography. The lucky winning bidder will be immortalized by the extraordinary pair in a 16 x 20 inch silver gelatin print signed by the artists.

Estimated value: $20,000–$25,000

Vik Muniz

Brooklyn-based Brazilian artist Vik Muniz has long been sought after for his amusing experiments with surprising mediums from peanut butter and jelly to dirt. For Creative Time's auction, the artist will create a delicious 60 x 48 inch portrait of the winning bidder in chocolate syrup, or the material of the winning bidder's choice.

Estimated value: $80,000–$100,000

Keith Sonnier

Keith Sonnier, well recognized for his light sculptures and public commissions, was among the first artists to successfully incorporate neon and other non-art materials in his work. Along with his contemporaries Bruce Nauman, Barry LeVa, and Eva Hesse, he radically reinvented sculpture in the late 1960s. For the winning bidder, the artist will create a “personal objects” sculpture incorporating the winning bidder’s personal objects into a custom neon sculpture.

Estimated value: $20,000–30,000

Anna Hu Haute Joallerie

Jeweler Anna Hu’s individually handcrafted pieces evoke the timeless royal jewels of the past, updated with contemporary touches that reflect her extensive training in classical music, art history and gemology. The jeweler will collaborate with the winning bidder on a custom designed piece of jewelry valued at $20,000. (The jeweler will provide sketches, craftsmanship and fabrication valued at $10,000 along with gemstones valued at $10,000).

Estimated value: $20,000
