Conference House Park

Our city ends on this shore—beyond it is
the Atlantic.

Street Address: Tours of the house take place
F–Su 1p–4p. They cost $3 for adults and $2 for children and seniors. Tours are not necessary to reach the lock.

Street Address: 298 Satterlee St
Hours: Dawn to dusk
Website: www.nycgovparks.org

Getting there: S59 or S78 bus to Hylan Blvd and Craig Ave, once you take the free public ferry to Staten Island

Once you arrive at the park: follow the signs for the Conference House Park Visitor Center. From the front door of the Visitor Center, face away from the building, turn to the left, and walk towards the Conference House. Turn left down the first path you come across, and follow it towards the ocean and to the pavilion. Walk slightly to the right of the pavilion, down a small slope to the beachfront.

Your key will unlock: the gate below the bayside pavilion, near the southernmost point in New York State.

  1. s says:

If you are going to the conference house, do not take the bus from the ferry! It will take upwards of two hours. Instead, take the SIR once you get off the ferry to Tottenville, the last stop (it’s about a 45 minute ride) and walk.

I wanted to walk all the way along the beach of the park. Lovely! Found a tick though so I suggest bug spray.

  3. lisa says:

  4. Matt Gaynord says:

Definitely the coolest site on Staten Island. Very historical. There are (were) free passes for the tour under the pavilian – inside the lock, so go down to the beach before going on the tour. Tour only lasts about ten minutes tops, but really cool house.

  5. L.A. says:

Should have brought my suit! MUST eat at Salvatore’s of Soho if you’re there!

  6. The Wings says:

The view from the pavillion is beautiful. Unfortunately, the beach is filthy. People left their garbage by the gate where the lock is located.

  7. Ben's Mom says:

Yes, the beach IS filthy. BUT if you walk all the way around, you can see the SOUTH POLE! A big red pole, stuck right htere in the bushes, just back from the shoreline, the southern-most point in all New York State! VERY cool (although beach is disgusting). And if you go INTO the Conference House, Oh Boy! !s THAT interesting! Absolutely, definitely worth the hike.
