My husband and I loved this place. Come hungry for hand churned ice cream! The bowl of fresh whipped cream reminds you to get a sundae. If you are lactose not so much- the sodas are a treat too. Root beer was delicious.

The employees said they had not received a box to use the key. We did get a discount on our desserts.

  2. Anna T says:

I there & they actually got a box for the key to the city…but when I opened it I was very disappointed cause the book said I would “unlock an extra helping of a delicious treat,” but there was nothing in there so I just left a note. Later I heard the employees talking about just receiving the box & that they were supposed to have coupons for the key holders…I guess they weren’t prepared yet. I was just very disappointed in not getting a delicious treat from that location. The only thing I did enjoy was the walk through the beautiful neighborhood.

I, too went to Eddie’s Sweet Shop today, and while they had a locked box for you to open with your key, inside were no discount coupons, but several notes similar to the one mentioned above by Anna T. I left my business card. I only hope I can get back there again sometime before the project is over (I live and work in Staten Island, don’t drive, and don’t often have the free time to take a trip that will take that long by public transportation…you pretty much need a day off.)
Tortilleria Nixtamal was a lot better prepared for their participation in this, which is quite something, considering that there are significant linguistic, cultural, and logistical issues involved for them.

This is the sweetest stop. It has all the old fashion charm and delicious home made ice cream. This is the holy grail of ice cream shop

    Hey,

Has anyone sorted this out yet?
Also, does anyone know if we bring an extra person, will they also get this discount/”special treat”?

  7. Melissa says:

Take the Q23 bus when you get off the train! It is by the Vitamin Shoppe. Thank goodness that I started walking the other way and someone clued me in on the bus.

    It’s a great shop!

If you go with someone and pay for their treat, you will get 20%.

  10. Priscilla says:

We went at the end of a 100 degree day after a Mets Game. The staff was frazzled and exhausted, moving as fast as they could to serve a packed house, but still friendly. We got 10% off check for our whole party (but made up for it with a very nice tip).

  11. Ben's Mom says:

Nifty little hole in the wall! Ice cream sundaes were yummy, and candy counter was fun to look it (though wish it were tidier behind that counter; it looked like someone’s spare storage space, very messy; kinda killed the cuteness factor overall). Staff was LOVELY, despite biggish crowd. Moms – make sure you have some Lestoil packed away in the laundry at home – that chocolate syrup is a killer to get out!

  12. DeeDee says:

it took me FOREVER to find the place… but SOOO well worth it! Amazing ice cream (i had the pistachio pineapple). Fluffy whipped cream. Friendly staff. Beautiful decor. My favorite location so far!

  13. Matt Gaynord says:

Best advice… Take the Q23 bus. It’s a LOOOONG walk… The bus is right there at the subway stop and leaves you just two short blocks away on Metropolitan Ave. Staff was exceptional – take the time to ask about the history of the place. They are very busy but very accommodating

  14. Jersey Girl says:

Yes, take the bus! Don’t worry when it turns off 71st, it does a detour around Forest Hills Gardens but it does end up back on 71st and Metropolitan. We went around 5 on a weekday afternoon. There were other customers, but it wasn’t crowded. Yummy sundaes, nice staff, great interior. We got a 25% discount off our bill.
