Creative Time’s signature live auction offers bidders the opportunity to be not just the owner of an artwork but an active participant in it’s creation. This year’s guests will have the opportunity to bid on work by The Selby, David Salle, Shirin Neshat, McDermott & McGough and others.
World-renowned photographer and creator of the hugely popular website, The Selby will produce a portfolio of images of the winning bidder in his or her residence*. The portfolio will include at least six images and The Selby will provide signed prints of the portfolio.

Inez and Vinoodh will team up with longtime collaborators, Paris art and design duo M/M Paris, Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak, represented by Haunch of Venison. This collaborative work involves intricate, delicate ink drawing over a silver gelatin print, and has been shown at Air de Paris, Matthew Marks Gallery, and numerous publications, and produced for Balenciaga and Bjork The winning bidder will be photographed in New York by Inez and Vinoodh, with original artwork created on the print by M/M. This their first collaborative private commission.

The artists will create a portrait of the winning bidder that appropriates the style of 1950s advertising photography. Winner will be styled and costumed accordingly and will receive a 24”x20″ Carbro print. Shoot will take place in New York City at the convenience of the artist by May 2012.

This lot features a set of three LPs owned by iconic Nirvana superstar, Kurt Cobain—including his personal copies of two of Nirvana’s biggest singles: Made of yellow colored vinyl, the promotional single for the edited version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” includes a B-side of previously unreleased Nirvana tracks, “Even in His Youth” and “Aneurysm.” The promotional single for “Come as You Are” is double sided. Plus, the set also features Cobain’s copy of Talking Heads: 77, an album that inspired him. This set is accompanied by a personal note from musician Courtney Love, whom we wish to thank for donating this extraordinary lot.

The works in the exhibition, including pieces by Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman, Swoon, Aaron Young, and Louise Lawler, among others, is open to bids from the public via Creative Time’s Event and Membership Associate Director Danielle Schmidt.
