Sophia Al-Maria is an artist, writer and filmmaker. Her work has been featured in biennales, galleries and museums around the world—from the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea to the Dowse Museum in Wellington, New Zealand. In fall 2014, Cornerhouse Gallery in Manchester, England presented her first solo exhibition, "Virgin With A Memory," curated by Omar Kholeif. Her writing has been published in Triple Canopy, Harper's and Artforum, among others, and she has been a contributing editor at Bidoun for some time. In 2012 Harper Collins USA published her first book, a memoir titled The Girl Who Fell to Earth, which the New York Times described as "offering us new outlook on ancient grounds." The book is currently being translated into Arabic by Bloomsbury Qatar and is due for release in early 2015.
