British conceptual artist Liam Gillick employs a diverse arsenal of artistic approaches to analyze communal exchange and the socioeconomic function of art.

Liam Gillick

Liam Gillick is a conceptual artist whose artistic approach centers on text, architecture, and exhibition-as-medium. His practice is described by many as aligning itself with “relational aesthetics,” and therefore, communal exchange is central in his work. Most recently, Gillick was invited to represent Germany at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The first critical reader of his work, entitled Meaning Liam Gillick, was published this September, in conjunction with his exhibit at Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art in the Netherlands.
