For Freedoms

“We are against notions of division; we’re trying to break down the binary, not just in terms of how we define ourselves but in how we relate to one another.”

Eric Gottesman photographs, writes, makes videos, teaches and uses art as a vehicle to explore aesthetic, social, and political culture. He is an Assistant Professor of Art at the State University of New York, Purchase College and a Mentor in the Arab Documentary Photography Project in Beirut, Lebanon.

Hank Willis Thomas is a conceptual artist working primarily with themes related to perspective, identity, commodity, media, and popular culture. His work is included in numerous public collections. Thomas’s first survey show All Things Being Equal… recently opened at the Portland Art Museum.

Gottesman and Thomas co-founded For Freedoms, an initiative for art and civic engagement that won the 2017 Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography.
