Get to Know

• Lefkowitz is known for creating silent private tours through New York, Vilnius, Paris, Aubervilliers.

• Her work engages interactions between the urban terrain and perceptive experience.

• Her training in Shiatsu massage informs her approach to bodies and space.

For the past five years, performance artist Myriam Lefkowitz’s ongoing project Walk, Hands, Eyes (a city) has examined the multifarious relationships formed between a given city and its inhabitants. Over the course of an hour’s silent walk through a city (whether it be New York, Vilnius, Paris, or Aubervilliers), a participant and a guide form an immersive relationship with their surroundings through the simple acts of walking, seeing, and touching. Lefkowitz is currently compiling these accounts into a book on interactions at work between the topographic reality of urban terrain and how geography is reflected in these perceptive experiences. The project has been presented at galleries and exhibitions worldwide, including the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). Currently an artist in residency in les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, she is on the teaching committee of SPEAP, at Science Po, Paris, a master’s program of experimentation in art and politics founded by Bruno Latour.
