Untitled

Matt Mullican has painted several roll down gates along the north side of 42nd Street with a set of symbols. While not identifiable with any particular company, they are nonetheless completely familiar as the language of corporate advertising. But they cannot be deciphered as logos. They remain cryptic. What might be intuited from his bold color choices? What could a symbol like a head with a hole in it mean? What about one where the hole has lines like a globe?
