Adelle Lutz has turned the former American Male shop into "American She-Male," a boutique that raises important issues through her inventive take on fashion. Mannequins still decorate the windows, along with sales slogans, but a close look reveals that all is not as it first appears. Plays on words, fake "firs" and sandals made of condom packets are some of the devices that bring a sober message along with a smile.
Artists' Biography
Adelle Lutz has worked in many creative fields and is best known for her work in costume design. She has collaborated with Joanne Akalaitis, Robert Wilson, David Byrne and the Talking Heads. In 1992 she created a series of costume fantasies for Barney's Christmas windows based on Santa's reindeer.
