Angels

at the Crossroads by The Kunst Brothers: Alison Saar & Tom

Leeser

Drawing upon allegories of 42nd Street as inspiration, "Angels at the Crossroads" reflects the historic layers of an area in transition. The vernacular term crossroads of the world sets 42nd Street apart from all other common numerical streets of New York City. A crossroads is a traditional cultural metaphor where the spirit world meets the physical. "Angels at the Crossroads" is an urban retablo dedicated to the souls of the people who have been drawn to the street by their dreams and aspirations.

"We want to explore the act as urban archeologists, uncovering the nostalgic past and presenting it as a projection of our shared desires and common aspirations." (From original installation proposal.)
