Miracle on 42nd Street by Ron Kuivila

"Miracle is an interactive installation located in one of the recessed 42nd Street theater entrances with a see-through roll down gate. The piece is a "sci-fi living room" filled with juvenile robots playing a computer game. When a "passer-by" enters their domain, the pedestrian becomes their target. If the target is aggressive enough the adolescent robots forgo the game, turn and approach the gate and attack their target directly, by waving their robot tentacles and violently rattling the roll down gate." (Ron Kuivila in original installation proposal.)

"Kuivila says his work is a serious critique of the desire for technology, although he tries to keep it fun. 'Humor seems to be a useful way to ask questions,' he says." ("Naughty, Bawdy, Gaudy Was Never Like This," Tagami, New York Newsday.)
