busiest, bawdiest, and most
visually raucous intersection,
tranversed by hundreds of thousands,
of tourists, shoppers and commuters
everyday. In 1993 and 1994, over 50 artists
came here to create on
on America's most public canvas.
Creative Time
and the
42nd Street Development Project, Inc.
in cooperation with the City's Economic
Development Corporation, presented the work of artists,
architects and designers on 42nd Street between Broadway
and Eighth Avenue. The artists took the street
on its own temrs--installing their works on windows,
walls, marquees and gates. In doing so, they
encouraged audiences to OPEN THEIR IMAGINATIONS
and discover the buried
treasure that lies beneath the glitter
and scandal of this celebrated streetscape.
