Day Without Art Web Action Project 1996 represents a reaction to fifteen years of the AIDS pandemic. Fifteen years and the first serious glimmer of hope that medical science can actually slow the progression of the HIV virus. Triple drug therapy [AZT, 3TC, & a protease inhibitor-the most common combination of drugs] is yielding the kind of results we have been hoping for and working hard to achieve for fifteen years.

Consider the complexity of this development, this glimmer of hope. Keep in mine that triple drug combination treatment does not work for everyone -- that fact has been established. For those that it can help, how will they get access to these cost prohibitive drugs? For HIV/AIDS service organizations this new protocol means exploding budgets to serve an ever increasing client base. For young people, one of the fastest growing populations infected by HIV, does the hype surrounding this "magic bullet" cast the very shakey, possibly even false, impression that there is a saftey net if you get infected?

For our observance for the Day Without Art/World AIDS Day 1996 we present the artwork of CB Cooke to put a human face on the AIDS crisis. In a triple combination of our own, the DWA Web Action site offers three areas of exploration: Resources, Actions and Participants. Resources provides links to the vast wealth of AIDS information available on the internet and several key pharmaceutical companies' contact information. Actions gives you the opportunity to add to a memorial list that will be sent to the President of the United States to remind him of the loss our communities continue to sustain. You can also "weigh-in" on your values by participating in the collective posting, "What are three thing you could not live without?" Finally, Participants lists the coalition of individuals and organizations expressing their alliance, anger, concern, and loss in response to the AIDS crisis.

Please explore our site and all it has to offer and let us know what you think. Remember, it's not over yet . . . Unified action is still necessary to ensure the end of the AIDS crisis.
