Nicholas Mirzoeff

Nicholas Mirzoeff is professor in and director of the Visual Studies program at New York University. He received his BA in Modern History from Oxford in 1980 and his PhD in art history from the University of Warwick in 1990. He has written numerous books, including Watching Babylon: The War in Iraq and Global Visual Culture (Routledge, 2005), which was translated into Italian. His Introduction to Visual Culture (1999) has become a basic text for students in the field and has been translated into Spanish, Korean, Italian, and Chinese. In the spring of 2009, Mirzoeff will be teaching a seminar that deals with war-related injuries.
