Hakan Topal is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. He is Assistant Professor of New Media and Art + Design at Purchase College, SUNY and a faculty member in the MFA Program at the School of Visual Arts. He received a Ph.D. in sociology from The New School. He is the co-founder of xurban_collective (2000-12) and has exhibited his work at the Istanbul Biennial; Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21), Vienna; Kunst-Werke, Berlin; ZKM Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; MoMA PS1, New York; the Gwangju Biennale and the Venice Biennale.
