Oliver Ressler creates thematic exhibitions, public projects, and videos that focus on issues of racism, migration, genetic engineering, economics, forms of resistance, and social alternatives. In his eight-channel film What is Democracy? (2009), Ressler posed the question to numerous activists and political analysts from fifteen cities around the world, revealing the multiplicity of perspectives and viewpoints of people living in countries that are typically labeled “democracies.” Ressler has participated in such exhibitions as VideoZone 4, Tel Aviv; the 2007 Moscow Biennial; the 7th Baltic Biennial, Szczecin, Poland; and the Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum, Alexandria, Egypt.
