“Pushing Boarders” will highlight the immense role skateboarding can have on marginalized communities as a self-development tool, presenting stories of the young men and women Maen trained in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The discussion will focus on topics that are relevant and important to our communities globally and in the DMV area, such as resilience, youth leadership and fostering an active and empowered youth.

Maen Hammad is a Palestinian-born, American-raised, filmmaker, skateboarder, and graduate student focused on the human dimensions of international conflict. Maen spent one year in the West Bank documenting Palestine’s newly emerged skateboard scene, as well as working at a development center assisting with youth leadership programs.
