Thanks to everyone who helped make our May 11 gala honoring Vik Muniz a sold-out success! The turn out exceeded even our wildest dreams and raised over $1.5 million to support Creative Time. In addition, a portion of proceeds from our paddle raise led by Auctioneer Henry Highley from PHILLIPS benefitted Escola Vidigal, a free arts and technology program founded by Vik for 4-to-8 year olds in the Rio de Janeiro favela of Vidigal. The heavenly celebration at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights welcomed 650 guests to dine, dance, and revel in the sounds of the brass gospel group McCollough Sons of Thunder. In the past, the Creative Time Gala has been described as a “must attend” and “the most fun benefit of the year,” and 2015’s Gala was no exception.
We were proud to honor Vik, who as an artist deeply committed to social transformation, embodies the character and spirit of Creative Time. Support of the evening ensures that Creative Time is able to continue presenting–for free and open to the public–some of the most trailblazing projects anywhere: projects that take on the big issues of our times and bring us together in civic moments of wonder and joy.
