About Escola Vidigal
Creative Time is thrilled to share with you Escola Vidigal, a school of art and technology envisioned and built by our very own Vik Muniz! Escola Vidigal offers preschool and afterschool programs for children 4 to 8 years old at the favela Vidigal in Rio de Janeiro. Built around the concept of Visual Literacy, these awesome (and free!) programs accommodate 48 students in four fully equipped classrooms. Classes vary from hands on drawing with and without a computer to computer coding and music literacy.
And that’s not all- Escola Vidigal will give international and local teachers, professors and artists a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a residency program that will serve as a pedagogical lab to advance research on visual literacy. We could not be more excited about these programs that further arts education in the international realm!
Every spring, Creative Time chooses a noteworthy charitable organization to help support at the Gala. We are proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from the paddle raise at the gala to Escola Vidigal. If you cannot attend the Gala on May 11, but would still like to contribute to Creative Time and Escola Vidigal, you can do so here. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
