Gervais Marsh
Artist Research Manager
Gervais Marsh, PhD, is the Artist Research Manager, part of the curatorial team. Raised in Kingston, Jamaica, their work is deeply invested in concepts of relationality, intimacy, and the complexities of Black life. They collaborate on Creative Time’s broader curatorial projects and support the Research & Develop (R&D) Fellowship across a range of critical, socially engaged research.
They were a curatorial fellow with the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program and have received fellowships from the Modern Ancient Brown Foundation, Terra Foundation for American Art, and Social Science Research Council, among others. Their writing has been published widely, including Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art, The Financial Times, Hyperallergic, and The Brooklyn Rail, alongside commissioned exhibition essays. They teach courses in Black Diasporic Visual and Performance Culture, Queer Studies, Caribbean Studies and Black Feminist theory and praxis. Marsh received a BA in Gender and Women’s Studies and Sociology from Pomona College, and PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University.
