Creative Time

Conference on Socially Engaged Art

December 3rd, 2012

Creative Time was thrilled to join Grey Art Gallery NYU and NYU Florence to present “Socially Engaged Art Practice,” a conference on social-practice art in urban spaces. The international conference—intended to the be first in a regular series—took place at La Pietra, NYU’s Florence, Italy, campus, from November 30 through December 1, 2012, and helped launch NYU’s new Public Art Initiative, an important program devoted to interdisciplinary scholarship on and courses about public art and socially engaged practice.

Advancing its efforts to expand its activities internationally, Creative Time took the lead in organizing the conference, which hosted about 25 colleagues, including a variety of artists, arts professionals, and NYU professors, who discussed current issues and new developments in socially-engaged artistic practice.
