Global Residency Artist Lisi Raskin Travels to Afghanistan

April 3rd, 2013

On March 30, 2013, artist Lisi Raskin, recipient of a Creative Time Global Residency award, touched down in Kabul, Afghanistan, the first stop in an itinerary that will also take her to Herat, Afghanistan, and then later this year to Vietnam. Lisi is studying the vestiges of war, adding to her earlier investigations of Cold War narratives and hoping to investigate the question What do war memorials fail to tell us about war? Both Afghanistan and Vietnam offer powerful opportunities for primary research into the complex story of each country’s relationship to war, historically and today. In Afghanistan, Lisi will be visiting the Soviet Tank Graveyard, the Darul Aman Palace, and the OMAR Mine Museum, all in or near Kabul, and the Jihad Museum, in Herat, among other sites. Stay tuned for more updates and photos from her trip!
