Bring Down The Walls has arrived. Download the album today on Bandcamp.
May 1st, 2018
Creative Time’s first musical release hits (digital) shelves today: Bring Down The Walls, a benefit pay-what-you-wish compilation featuring covers of the most enduring house hits, is available now on Bandcamp. Proceeds from the album go directly to Critical Resistance, a grassroots organization building an international movement to end the prison industrial complex.
Each track is a collaboration between formerly incarcerated vocalists and cutting-edge electronic musicians, including house legends Larry Heard and Robert Owens who have reunited to create a brand new version of our namesake track, along with a roster of current trailblazers such as Honey Dijon, Empress Of, MikeQ, Ian Isiah, L’Rain, Kyp Malone, and Nguzunguzu. Check out more from The FADER, who calls the album “an urgent reclamation of electronic [music’s] progressive history,” and invites you to “help smash mass incarceration with this incredible house music project.”
Featuring classic house tracks from the late-80s, such as “Break 4 Love,” “Promised Land,” and “Your Love,” the album reimagines songs that are at once political anthems and odes to desire, connection, yearning, and physical action.
Pay-what-you-wish for the digital download or pre-order the limited edition 12″ double vinyl LP, coming out this fall.
And the album is just the beginning. Bring Down The Walls is also a communal space that functions as a school by day and dance club by night, located at the historic Firehouse, Engine Company 31 at 87 Lafayette, open every Saturday in May. See the full schedule and sign up here.
