Project : Flux 4.0: Ascape
With Flux 4.0: Ascape, Asymptote continues their exploration of physical
and virtual motion in the urban landscape. This project presents a
visualization of velocity, projecting complex computer generated
animations onto forms cast from molds of the 1960's Cobra race car.
The static shapes of the cars are set in motion by the graphics, creating
a visually saturated environment that proposes a deeper relationship
between the speed of digital communication networks and our experience of
the City.
Artist : Asymptote Architecture
Asymptote transcends the boundaries of traditional architectural practice
with work that ranges from buildings and urban design to gallery
installations and computer-generated environments. The firm, founded in New
York in 1989 by Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, draws inspiration from a
wide range of sources not traditionally associated with architecture, among
them the phenomena of information space, tectonics of dynamic systems and
contemporary city-space, and organic systems of transformation. Asymptote's
projects are equally concerned with change and fluctuating conditions - motion, light, speed, and traversing virtual boundaries - as with new forms
of generative processes and new types of building systems.
