About the Project
Addressing issues of women’s health, Body Politics was a two-night event, which featured a dynamic group of performers and specially commissioned works. Acting as Tipper Gore, Martha Wilson hosted both evenings, while choreographer and dancer Blondell Cummings performed an excerpt from her project Flashers, a cross-cultural and multigenerational oral history investigating issues surrounding menopause.
Holly Hughes explored the terrain of father/daughter and butch/femme relationships; Peggy Pettitt performed the one-woman piece Wrapped Up Tied Up & Tangled; Reno shared a monologue on women’s health issues from her satirical and uniquely hilarious perspective; Joyce Scott presented excerpts from her work Generic Interference, Genetic Engineering; and Mary Ellen Strom’s Checkup was a provocative indoor/outdoor multimedia performance.
