Creative Time

 
Creative Time, New York City’s veteran and vanguard public arts presenter, seeks two temporary Site Managers for New Red Order’s (NRO) The World’s UnFair. The Site Manager will manage the daily set-up, operation, trouble-shooting, and breakdown of the large-scale outdoor multi-work installation including a multi-channel video and audio installation located at 24-11 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, Queens NY 11101.
 
The candidate must be a dedicated and enthusiastic steward of art in the public realm, and serve as a dynamic representative for Creative Time. The installation is outdoors, so candidates must be comfortable working outside and be comfortable adapting to changes in weather and temperature.
 
The candidate will be expected to engage with the public, sharing information about Creative Time, the artists, and background information about the project and its core themes. Strong candidates are self-starters who can conduct their work independently with a thorough eye for detail. They will bring a friendly and passionate demeanor and be interested in promoting the intersection of art and issues surrounding rematriation and giving back land.
 
The Site Manager reports to Creative Time’s Project Manager (PM) and interfaces with the entire production team regularly. Complete training is provided before the project begins, and the selected Site Manager will receive key documents such as a Health and Safety Plan, key contacts, a schedule, and a staffing manual which will include scripts for assistance in engaging with the public.
 
The project will run from September 14, 2023 to October 15, 2023. The candidate should be available to work 20 hours/week during that time period from Thursdays through Sunday from 11:00am – 9:00pm, with the potential for additional days to be added. During three public program days, the shift hours will extend to 11:00pm. This is a paid temporary position with a compensation of $25/hour.
 
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Primary responsibilities and duties include:
Attend mandatory training session (2-4 hours) the week of September 11, 2023
Manage the overall operation of the site, serving as onsite contact for other site staff, CT staff working shifts, and public
Be able to make executive decisions in real time unexpected situations that prioritize the safety and well being of attendees and the intentions of the project
Serve as the direct contact for onsite security, and call upon them should any scenarios escalate and require support
Interact with the public, sharing information about the project and details around access
Delegate and complete daily checklist for setup and closing of the installation in a timely manner. Please note, some lifting and transporting of materials and equipment may be required during shifts.
Conduct routine quality control checks for equipment and syncing devices, communicating with the production team to troubleshoot in real time
Communicate on-site issues to production team related to maintenance, equipment, safety, staff, or attendees in a timely manner, and take initiative to resolve promptly and responsibly
Monitor weather conditions and communicate to production team proactively about weather events that would trigger schedule changes for the public
Provide direction to support staff about tasks and duties and check-in to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standard
Participate in regularly scheduled check-ins with the production team, adapting plans and processes when needed
Help to facilitate a fun, engaging, detail-oriented site for all site staff and vendors
Not required but advantageous if you have ability to speak Spanish and other languages other than English, training in de-escalation and conflict resolution, or the use of Narcan
Must be able to stand for long periods of time in an outdoor environment
Must be able to comfortably lift around 20 lbs
