Little River Cooperative is made up of an urban farm plot as well as an edible plant nursery. Owners Tiffany and Muriel, along with Danielle Bender from Public Hives, will host a workshop in the Allapatah based nursery. Learn about how the history of South Florida agriculture and the wacky weather of the tropics has shaped the current local food scene and attend a bee demonstration by Public Hives, who promote beekeeping by placing beehives in neighborhoods and parks in Miami. By creating greater access to educational opportunities, and presenting with the arts in mind, Public Hives inspires community members to learn alongside one another while observing and learning from other communities: bees!

You will be outdoors so please dress sun-smart.

Muriel Olivares comes from an artistic background and has always had a passion for plants. In 2014 she combined forces with Tiffany Noe to found the Little River Cooperative, which grows all its produce organically and produces 40 varieties of annual vegetables and herbs as well as a selection of year-round tropical crops. Before then she ran a local Community Supported Agriculture in Miami.

Tiffany Noe, who shares both Olivares’ artistic background and her passion for plants, ran Plantmatter nursery before teaming up with her friend Olivares to create the Little River Cooperative.

Danielle Bender is an arts administrator and grant writer in Miami, FL. For the past five years she has co-run an alternative art space that specializes in experimental, nomadic programming that specifically highlights South Florida’s unique landscapes and people. She is now the Education Manager at The Wolfsonian-FIU. Danielle is passionate about Miami, its ecosystem and its communities. This led her in 2017, through the Public Space Challenge, to found Public Hives.
