Dream Defenders is using arts and culture alongside community organizing to come together and imagine our new North Star. In this moment, we spend so much time reacting to other people’s vision for the world that we rarely get time to actually imagine the world we are fighting for, our vision for the future. Another world is possible but do we truly believe it? Are we ready to build it? Join us for this interactive conversation as Dream Defender Members, Vivian and Jabari help us vision the world we all need.

Jabari Mickles is a Community Organizer for Power U and a member of Dream Defenders. His passion is in storytelling, and desires to use film, graphic novels, illustrations, and graphic arts to artistically articulate what is our new North Star. Jabari was born in Detroit, Michigan and began doing art in elementary school. He studied Graphic Design in college then started a multi-media production company, Eshu Funk, in 2016. He works with arts who studies all types of mediums to curate shows that bring politics into the arts world in a practical way.

Vivian Azalia is a visual artist, educator, and organizer. Vivian has been working as an educator since 2011 in various spaces from Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) to juvenile detention centers and most recently Kelsey Pharr Elementary school. The curiosity for arts has always been present for Vivian since childhood to the recent years of expanding her practice in photography, jewelry making, pottery, graphic design and much more. In 2013 she joined Dream Defenders which has slightly shifted her focus on arts for art sake to building community power especially economic stability.
