What is financialization? How has it changed the nature of political structures in the 21st century? What are the new forms of economic instability and risk that it has generated for society at large? What are the social ramifications and implications of these phenomena? In this workshop, Brooklyn Institute for Social Research faculty members Raphaele Chappe (Economics) and Ajay Singh Chaudhary (Social and Political Theory) will work with participants to better understand today’s political economy and the “quasi-sovereign” power of increasingly concentrated transnational firms.

Raphaële Chappe is a political economist, Fellow with the Open Society Foundations, and a Core Faculty Member at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research, an interdisciplinary teaching and research institute.

Ajay Singh Chaudhary is the Executive Director of the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research and Core Faculty member who specializes in social and political theory.
