Jimmy McMillan

Jimmy McMillan, a political activist, karate expert, Vietnam War veteran, and one-time private investigator, ran for New York City mayor in 2009 under the banner of the “Rent Is Too Damn High” Party, whose mission is to “provide a roof over your head, food on the table, and money in your pocket.” McMillan has gained recognition for such unconventional campaign methods as performing a spoken-word song at the “Occupy” protests about how the constitution gives one the right to protest and picket, but also the right to vote for the wrong person. He also ran for governor of New York in 2010, and made waves at the gubernatorial debate by refusing to take a backseat to his more popular and established counterparts.

Why we love Jimmy McMillan:

• Well for one, we have to agree with Jimmy about that rent problem!

• The announced his 2013 mayoral candidacy with a hip hop music video that generated over 750,000 views

• In addition to being a political activist, McMillan is also a karate expert and Vietnam War Veteran
