Workshop

SESSION TWO | 1:00PM – 2:00PM

RAPID RESPONSE PUBLIC ART

Led By R.J. Rushmore, Jordan Seiler

MAGNUM FOUNDATION, 59 EAST 4TH STREET, LEVEL 7
Note: This session requires pre-registration and is capped according to venue size. Some portions of the workshop, such as the making of posters, require the ability to hold a marker and draw on a piece of paper. Additionally, the workshop will also rely on some visuals, so people who are visually impaired will experience this session differently.

What good is a civic media infrastructure if it is largely controlled by advertisers and for-profit, consumption-driven messaging? Aren’t there more pressing topics of conversation with which we would rather surround ourselves? And did anyone ever ask for the right to your attention? Let’s figure out how to resist this organized invasion with guerrilla-style rapid response public projects that aim to democratize the media and messages we see on a daily basis.

RJ Rushmore is a co-curator of Art in Ad Places, where he works with artists to create radical alternative visions of public space.

Jordan Seiler is a New-York based artist and activist working to democratize access to our public visual landscapes and shared civic media environments.
