After three years, the Creative Time Gala is back!

We are thrilled to once again gather together to celebrate the power of public art! Creative Time’s 2022 Gala will honor iconic conceptual artist Charles Gaines. We are so proud to be supporting Charles in realizing his first public art work The American Manifest. His ambitious project – sited across Times Square, Governors Island, and later in Cincinnati – addresses the legacy of slavery in the United States and the complex nature of the American origin story. Anchoring this multi-faceted project is a 110-foot interactive and kinetic sculpture titled Moving Chains, on view on Governors Island through June 2023. The work represents one of Creative Time’s largest, most ambitious projects to date.

To further acknowledge not only Charles’ accomplishments as an artist, but also his legacy as a teacher and mentor, we are honoring a class of artists he has inspired and taught over the years including Rashid Johnson, Lauren Halsey, Steffani Jemison, and Edgar Arceneaux.

The Creative Time Gala is our most important fundraiser of the year. Since 1974, Creative Time has been committed to supporting the vision of artists like Charles Gaines, as well as the next generation of trailblazing artists today and beyond. Your support of this evening ensures that we are able to continue presenting artists’ dream projects in the public sphere, free and open to all.
