NEWS FROM A MIME'S THUD
AUSTIN, TEXAS
STREET PERFORMANCES: JUNE 5, 2008
ARTISTS’ TALK: JUNE 6, 2008
Rodney McMillian and Olga Koumoundouros will design and execute a mobile audio center that visits various sites around Austin. This blend of variety show, church revival, talk radio program, and NPR fundraiser will take on the issues of capital punishment and lawmaking. The project, installed on a moving vehicle, will include prerecorded messages from the artists and contributions from guests—speaking mimes, preachers, musicians, and prison advocacy groups. The truck will stop in sites like strip malls and governmental buildings’ parking lots to broadcast messages to diverse audiences. The program will be presented with the Blanton Museum of Art, as part of Creative Time’s 2008 public art initiative Democracy in America: The National Campaign.
